Communist Manifesto The Communist Manifesto (1847) by Karl Marx and Fredierich Engels state that capitalism is an evolutionary phase in economic development, and that it would eventually self destruct and be replaced by a world where private property no longer existed. They believed a revolution was necessary to overthrow capitalism. This revolt was to be conducted by the factory workers, for they are the most valuable because the production rests in their hands. Marx and Engels prophesized that upheaval would occur as result of corporate greed, as cheaper wage and labor saving machinery would lead to higher profits.
