Beowulf Beowulf Essay The Christian Values of the Author In the year 1000 A.D. a Christian monk wrote the epic poem Beowulf. Beowulf, which is similar to all epic poems, is about an Anglo Saxon hero who stands up for his people. In this piece of literature the author believes that God’s influence touches many realms of life. The realms of life that the author comes upon are goodness overcoming evil, creation of birth, and human behavior. God’s influence of goodness overcoming evil is stated in The Coming of Beowulf. Beowulf declares, “God must decide who will be given to death’s cold grip”. The interpretation of this statement is God will decide who will triumph in battle. Goodness being Beowulf or evil being the evil monster Grendel.
