Realitivism

2013-11-13 来源: 类别: 更多范文

Realitivism Philosophy seeks to find better understanding of the world and a better way for society by asking questions that lead to knowledge. There are many philosophies that are useful and worthy of acceptance, however, based on certain criterion, relativism is not one of them. The first of such criterion is the test of possibility. Soccio defines relativism as the “belief that knowledge is determined by specific qualities of the observer.” Relativism takes into account the cultural background and all other aspects of a person’s life in understanding what is right for them. Therefore, to gain the universal knowledge of the truth, one must be able to see the world from the understanding of another person. It is impossible to ever see another culture without viewing it through the perceptions and ideals of your own, making truth an unattainable idea. We have learned all sorts of things that we believe to be true, and true for everyone. For example, Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, 2 + 2 = 4, you should not beat your children or starve your pets. Certainly our opinions about morality differ, and certainly they are conditioned by and relative to all sorts of things. truth, relativism, one, true, society, moral, must, believe, way, understanding, opinions, better, another, wrong, without, relativist, philosophy, knowledge, criterion, belief, ask, world, things, stability, sorts, soccio, saying, right, questions, practical, possible, people, opinion, morality, miller
