Philosohers Kongzi, Laozi, Han Feizi each had very separate ideas and ideals for the greatest ruler. Whether the ruler gain control through trust, being unseen but assertive or through force, rulers must know how to keep their people in line. Kongzi believed in maintaining control by having the people of a rulers land be able to trust a ruler. In document 1 Kongzi says instead of sacrificing people’s trust first sacrifice parts of military and food. This must also mean to set up his ideal government you must first have the trust of the people. In document 2 Kongzi also expressed that harsh governments will not teach a sense of shame but just have the people avoid punishment. But, when running government through ritual the people will learn a sense of shame because they would be taught what wrong is and be able to reform. Laozi believed that the greatest of all rulers should be but a shadowy presence. This means the ruler should be known by the people but not recognized by who actually is. This is expressed in document 3 as well as what the following great rulers were viewed at in his eyes. As showed in document 4 Laozi ruler, people, document, believed, trust, should, harsh, han, greatest, feizi, rulers, ministers, kongzi, ideas, control, trusted, through, shame, punishments, must, having, expressed, each, approaches, wrong, view, very, three, teach, shadowy, sense, reward, punishment, presence, power, over
