Descartes Reply to Descartes Passions of the Soul Alright, to someone who lived in the times of 1596-1650, I think that this Descartes fellow had some really interesting and thought provoking ideas. At that time, it was a basis that the mind and body were the two main substances and that they did intertwine, however could stand alone. Physically and biologically, we now know that the mind is not an “animal spirit” and involves a little more with the neurons, penal glands and electricity that previous Descartes thought. I agree with Melissa that according to Descartes, we are all in violation of our passions. I believe that I have passions for many things, and have developed them throughout my life, and act upon them everyday. I don not agree with all that Descartes mentions in his articles; however some of his points seem to be valid. “Passion in the former is commonly an Action in the latter” seems to be a commonly true statement. This doesn’t necessarily mean that passion is bad, it only means that if we like something, we tend to strive for it and try to get soul, descartes, passions, mind, life, bad, agree, virtues, thought, things, something, really, passion, make, little, however, having, gland, commonly, body, violation, valid, upon, understand, two, try, true, times, time, throughout, think, thing, terrible, tend
