John Locke It is said in the state of war that by declaring war against someone is allowing the opportunity for his life to be taken away. It also states that one has the right to destroy anything that one is threatened by (which is from the state of nature). Power is the main idea that connects war and slavery. According to Locke, when one’s power is taken away he is vulnerable. If, during a state of war, one conquers the other, the loser has his power taken away. If one is taken into someone else’s power, they can be enslaved. This power overrules one’s freedom and they no longer can decide what happens. For slavery to take place there must be a state of war between two persons.
