Everyday Zen
In this paper I will introduce the concept of Zen Practice and the type of perceptions that are needed in order experience meditation. I will focus on the beginnings of Zen practice and what it is about. This paper will be based on the book Everyday Zen, by Charlotte Joko Beck.
Zen practice is basically a meditative practice that allows individuals to become one with life. In order to practice Zen, one must focus on his or her current surroundings. The attention of ones surroundings differs from routine attention and observation, that are familiar within our daily thought processes. According to Zen, we must block out our daily thought processes, as well as any conflicting thoughts that may be cause interference.
The Charlotte Joko Beck, begins her book with an example her dog. She states that the dog doesnt worry about the meaning of life. A dog doesnt have the need to be enlightened nor does it have to worry about things other than being fed or provided affection. Human beings are dissimilar in the sense that they are constantly absorbed with thoughts, questions, emotions, and in search for answers and solutions. We
