The mastery of objects is the lowest level of mastery, since even a child can possess and control an object, such as a toy. Creatures require more skill to master; one cannot simply command a horse of dog to obey, a trainer must be skilled. The mastery of other human’s demands yet more of an individual. Hegel states that the master sees his freedom in the employment of a slave and the slave really gets his sense of self through this relationship because he becomes good at what he does and is therefore recognized for it. The Master is enslaved by this relationship because to eat he must have the slave cook, bath the slave must prepare the bath and so on.
