The English epic Beowulf was written by English monks in the 8th century. It’s about Beowulf, a heroic man who saves many people from supernatural monsters. Beowulf truly is an epic because it contains all four parts of an epic. One characteristic of Beowulf which makes it an epic is that the hero has a high status and is a prominent legendary figure. Beowulf was a powerful king of Geatland for over fifty years. Beowulf’s people loved him. He was able to keep peace in his country the whole time he ruled, because all the other people respected and feared him.
