. Hera Hera was the Queen of the gods and the daughter of the Titans, Cronus and Rhea. She was the sister and wife of the god Zeus. Hera was the goddess of marriage and the protector of married women. This is very ironic since her marriage wasn’t very stable. Her husband Zeus was always described as falling in love with one woman after another and resorting to all kinds of tricks to hide his infidelity from his wife. Stories of his escapades were numerous in ancient mythology, and many of his offspring were a result of his love affairs with both goddesses and mortal women. Hera is known for her jealousy, and because of it, she persecuted her husband's lovers and the children he had by them. Her jealousy is shown through her spiteful actions toward Io, Semele and her son, Dionysus, and Heracles. Io was a beautiful woman who caught the eye of the passionate (and conspicuously promiscuous) Olympian god Zeus. Io was commonly thought to be a daughter of the river god Inachus and Melia. In addition, she belonged to a royal family and was also a priestess of Hera at Argos.
