The Bealtes The Beatles are arguably the greatest band ever. The Fab Four captured the attention of audiences worldwide when they first began in the 1960s and have stayed in the spotlight ever since. Something about the four young men from Liverpool created an interest that still lives on today. History of the Band The Beatles was the creation of the band’s leader John Lennon. In 1957 the group originated from sixteen year old John’s first band, the Quarrymen. Paul McCartney joined this band and later brought in fourteen year old George Harrison as lead guitarist. The band changed names many times and eventually ended up as the Beatles. There has been much speculation over this name but its true origin was being modeled after Buddy Holly’s band, the Crickets. The spelling is in reference to the ‘beat’ of music. Drummer Ringo Starr joined the band in 1962, right before Beatlemania began. This same year the Beatle’s first single, “Love Me Do”, was released and reached #17 on the British charts. The second and third singles released (“Please Please Me” and “From Me to You”) were also successful in England.
