Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia is a problem to be addressed through deeper understanding of its nature and the course it will take because your friends and family of anorexia victims are less informed than they should be. Psychologists are still trying to find one cause towards anorexia and have found that complications with friends, family and social surroundings have raised many issues and concerns associated with anorexia. A particular website read “Research suggests that about 1% of female adolescents have anorexia. That means that about one out of every one hundred between ten and twenty are starving themselves sometimes to death.”1 How do we target this problem, and better yet why are we letting our friends and family get to a point of not feeling accepted' Women are not the only gender suffering from this disease. Anred (Anorexia Nervosa and Related Eating Disorders) said, “Only about 10% of people with anorexia and bulimia are male. This gender difference may reflect our societies different expectations for men and women.”2 You would think that this disease would work in reverse for men.
