Three Strikes THREE STRIKES LAW Is the three strikes law affective or is it putting troubled Americans behind bars for life' This is a law that many lawbreakers in California are affected by every year. This paper will be explaining the three strikes law in California and the people charged with it. It will also explain what crimes they did to get charged and the extent of their crimes. Many of the offenders other offenses are just little petty crimes that will be explained why they are sentenced the three-strikes law. The three strikes law has some downsides. Many people have examined many of the three strikes law cases to see if it was the right thing or not. The majority of the offenders that are sentenced have two felonies or violent crimes. When they get a petty crime then get tried for it they generally say that was three strikes. There sentence gets twenty-five years to life is the only sentence you can get. I agree with many people who say that this is cruel and unusual punishment under the eighth amendment in the U.S. constitution.
