In 1989, a young teenager was taken against her will, and had sex forced upon her. She was held down, violently grabbed, and was unable to move. No screams could be heard, no cries could be witnessed. This young lady was raped. Suzanne OMalley states that 700,000 rapes are committed each year,[;] however, only two percent of the victims will see their rapists imprisoned(78). Justice looses its meaning every time a rapist walks free. Lately, there has been much controversy in regards to the book, A Natural History of Rape: Biological Bases of Sexual Coercion by Randy Thornhill and Craig Palmer. This book states that rape is a form of sex. It is a way to reproduce in the eyes of man; however, many feel it is a form of power and violence. Throughout history, humans have pondered whether rape is caused by violence between men, women, and children, or sex.
Thornhill and Palmer say that rape has been a part of the human experience since the caveman. They convey that rapists have it in them to reproduce whether it is with a willing partner or not. The U.S.
