Wal-mart Debate Wal-Mart: To be or Not To Be' How would it make you feel if one day you rode into your hometown and all of the buildings on Main Street were being torn down' All of the buildings that hold a special place in your past are gone, and it’s all because the town decided to construct a Wal-Mart. The town I live in would be boisterous. The people here hold too many memories on Main Street not to be. Sarah Anderson’s article “Wal-Mart’s War on Main Street” illustrates the concern of locally owned stores, explains how Wal-Mart would affect them, and shows the sentimental value within the local stores. Since the beginning of Wal-Mart many years ago, there have been many towns and communities opposing it. For example: Rhonda Miller of Jonesville, a small town in South Carolina says this: “As for me, I’m against Wal-Mart in Jonesville. Simply because we already have one about ten miles down the road and in the year 2005, it’ll become a Super Wal-Mart. Therefore, I don’t think it would benefit us and I really don’t see a point to it at all.” As wal-mart, people, town, stores, small, buildings, street, main, owned, community, been, years, things, that’s, out, one, locally, hold, don’t, communities, within, wal-mart’s, value, towns, torn, tear, store, standing, something, sentimental, really, pride, point, old, norman
