Bedford Teens Charged In Bird’s Death and Religion and The Right to Use Animals Bedford Teens Charged In Bird’s Death and Religion and The Right to Use Animals I did two articles because they both appealed to me. The first article is about two kids, 18 years old, who climbed a tree to hop the fence of a homeowner, John Vratsenes. The kids proceeded to beat to death one of Vratsenes rare sandhill cranes. The kids were charged with criminal mischief, felony animal cruelty count, criminal trespass and conduct after an accident. Both may not be within 200 yards of the house it happened at. To kill the bird, they had beat it with a rake handle. The crane is being kept frozen in Vratsenes care in case it is needed in the court.
