Young Offendes Act Young Offenders Act CHAPTER Y-1 An Act respecting young offenders SHORT TITLE Short title 1. This Act may be cited as the Young Offenders Act. 1980-81-82-83, c. 110, s. 1. INTERPRETATION Definitions 2. (1) In this Act, "adult" «adulte» "adult" means a person who is neither a young person nor a child; "alternative measures" «mesures de rechange» "alternative measures" means measures other than judicial proceedings under this Act used to deal with a young person alleged to have committed an offence; "child" «enfant» "child" means a person who is or, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, appears to be under the age of twelve years; "disposition" « décision » "disposition" means a disposition made under any of sections 20, 20.1 and 28 to 32, and includes a confirmation or a variation of a disposition; "offence" « infraction » "offence" means an offence created by an Act of Parliament or by any regulation, rule, order, by-law or ordinance made thereunder, other than an ordinance of the Yukon Territory or the Northwest Territories or a law of the Legislature for Nunavut; "ordinary court" «juridiction normalement compétente» "ordinary court" means the court that would, but for this Act, have jurisdiction in respect young, person, court, under, order, application, , provincial, shall, section, made, subsection, attorney, custody, youth, director, make, general, place, persons, person's, ordinary, detention, parents, offence, held, against, subparagraph, review, proceedings, applicant, respect, notice, federal, correctional, transfer
