Marijuana The Legalization of Marijuana The legalization of marijuana has been widely debated in our country. We have had a war on drugs for a long period of time now. Many people have many different views about this subject. Both sides present fairly good arguments if you take a look at them both. I do not see our federal legislators supporting the legalization of this drug, and I agree with them totally! While the debate continues, I have chosen to support those who oppose to the legalization of marijuana. For one, it has been proven to destroy brain cells. Recent anti-drug commercials have shown pictures of a brain when someone uses marijuana. To me this makes marijuana a health hazard. Marijuana users cannot see the harmful effects of the drug. Recent studies indicate that marijuana is more potent today than it was thirty years ago. Chemical additives achieve the potency. Since everyone is unique, it is hard to predict how the body will respond to the chemicals. Also unknown is the quantity of the chemicals used. It has yet to be proven at what rate brain cells deteriorate, but knowing that it does happen is a reason to oppose to its legalization.
