Progressivism And Imperialism Over the years many historians have shown ties between progressivism and imperialism. Indeed these two are related. They both deal with the same topics. To what extent though' They are similar up until a certain point. It all boils down to whether the expansion in imperialism is for the better good or not. When the acquisition of land does not necessarily benefit the country that is where the two topics split. In the Progressive movement the United States was undergoing a major social reform. The government was leaning back towards Americanism, the idea of isolationism, to protect the ideas, morals, and values of the citizens. Yet the country still pushed forward with the progressive movement. The country still expanded, extending the movement over many more years. Everyone thought that this helped the country for the better.
