King Henry VIII Until his brothers' death, Henry was deliberately kept from the public eye. He was after all, the second son. Much more time was spent on Arthur's preparation to the throne, so Henry 's thrust into the spotlight became a shock. Henry was educated with intent of him joining the church, not on becoming a king. In his younger years, Henry was good-looking, athletic, generous, people oriented, but hot-tempered. While he aged, so did his personality traits. He became obese, foul smelling, jealous, and harsh. His first wife was the widow of his brother. Her name was Katherine of Aragon. Henry's father insisted on keeping the alliance with Spain, so he summoned the pope to go against the scripture and grant his son to marry his brother's widow. After many months, the pope granted the marriage and the two were married. Henry would later use the same scripture to nullify the marriage to Katherine. During the course of their marriage, Henry and Katherine had one child. It was a daughter and her name was Mary.
