D-DAY On June 6th 1944 Introduction In this paper I will focus on D-Day. I will explain why it had to be done and how it was made possible. Whether it be the LCVP which was the landing craft that was developed specially for D-Day, the M-1 Garand .30 caliber rifle or just the soldier carrying it. It was the early morning hours of June 6th 1944. The largest military invasion of all time was about to begin. It would be known to the world simply as D-Day. By the time you could see the morning dew on the grass 18,000 British and American paratroopers had already landed in Normandy, France and allied troops were about to storm the beaches. However none of this would have happened if it weren’t for the efforts put forth in planning this operation. From the moment the United States declared war on Germany an invasion in Europe was a must. When and where was the question. Preparing to invade… When the United States entered into World War II on December 8th 1944 they new that without a European invasion victory was not possible.
