Auschwitz

Auschwitz The frigid winter of 1943 was one of pain and suffering for millions of people. My grandmother was in Auschwitz, as were thousands of other Nazi victims. Many people were dying from diseases contacted through clothing that provided no respite from the icy cold. The flimsy threadbare prisoner uniforms accomplished one thing only; the degradation of the those who wore it. Many people were lacking shoes to protect their feet from the terrible cold. My grandmother would bravely remove the shoes off the feet of those unfortunates martyrs that no longer needed them. She risked her life to help others who were suffering. Had my grandmother been caught, the Nazi beasts would have shot her immediately. My grandmothers kindness is an example of tremendous courage. Courage, is the strength revealed by people in times of peril. Courage is an action intertwined with possible disastrous ramifications, undertaken by the brave of heart. Often times, everyday people are revealed as daring and heroic in the face of great danger. They take great risks in order to achieve their goals. Sadly, the opposite is true as well; people considered courageous are sometimes exposed as cowards.
