Vietnam War The Vietnam War (1961-1975) was one of the most controversial wars in United States History. It has been one of the most portrayed historical events in movies, with more than forty-three mainstream movies to its credit . Of these movies, one of the best known is Oliver Stone’s, Platoon. The movie stars Charlie Sheen as Chris Taylor, a young man entered into the draft for Vietnam. The movie follows his life and also the life of the other members of his platoon. The plot revolves around the separation of the platoon after the ordering of the massacre of innocent villagers. To get a closer look at the lives of the soldiers in Vietnam, we look towards personal, first hand accounts, and also towards a book, The Things They Carried, by Tim O’Brien. Through this book, first hand accounts of veterans, and movies, we see just how much the lives of these soldiers changes and how their lives afterwards are affected. O’Brien was born in Minnesota in 1946, and has written many different novels.
