Renaissance Clothing Renaissance clothing was very important. The people impressed each other with their clothing. Their steeple hats could be up to three feet tall! Men wore very pointy shoes. They also had to be pulled back. The women’s head dresses covered all of their hair. Some hats were shaped as animal horns, or butterfly wings. In the early days, the rich wore simple clothes. After the 1100’s, the clothing became more elaborate. Hats with tails, were called Liripipes. They draped over the peoples shoulders. Actually, some nobles set trends. In the 1450’s knee-length clothes were trimmed in fur. Hats were very tall. Women’s dressed, sometimes, had long trains. No stores sold ready-made clothes. Work clothes consisted of wool stockings, caps, hoods, straw hats, tunics, and cloaks. These clothes could last many years fro workers. Everything varied from time to time. Men wore many coats. Leather boots were long and had ties up the side.
