The Vikings
The Clash of Cultures In Vineland
The Vikings have become known as a fierce group of people who explored much of the World. Although they were known to move from land to land quite frequently, they often set up settlements in the lands that had characteristics that they liked. This was the case when the Vikings discovered Vineland. Vineland had much to offer the Vikings so a settlement was established and many Vikings stayed there. Although the land of Vineland was nearly perfectly suited to the Vikings, things were not so easy for them due to an inability to understand the native people of Vineland.
The Vikings immediate impression of Vineland was that it was rich with many resources. There was no lack of salmon there either in the river or in the lake, and larger salmon than they had ever seen before. The country therabouts seemed to be possessed of such good qualities that the cattle would need no fodder there during the winters (9-10). The Vikings lived day to day in a constant struggle to get all the resources they needed for survival. Something as simple as having enough grass to feed their cattle could mean the difference between life
