Technological Advancements After The Revolution American life was greatly impacted by technology from the 1870s to the 1920s. Technological advancements brought about an organizational revolution which created a nationally domestic market. This market was the foundation on which our country still runs today and will continue to run on. Many of the innovations and inventions have since been updated and perfected to adapt to the changing times through history but the base remains the same. Taking a step back, we can reflect on how such inventions shaped our country over one hundred years ago. From the first trans-atlantic cable to the Model T Ford, America grew into the most powerful nation in the world. The laying of the first Trans-Atlantic cable in 1870 enabled real time communication through morse code between the United States and Europe. This was the first real-time communication medium and it brought the people of Europe and the United States closer than ever before. As innovation progressed, so did the inventions associated with it. Creations such as the George Westinghouse’s alternating current enabled the electrification of homes and businesses. With homes electrified, appliances were needed to fill power outlets. Appliances like the dishwasher, refrigerator, and telephones created markets in the already growing consumer economy. The laying of hundreds of thousands of miles of Railroad tracks provided people, country, time, inventions, before, out, homes, ford, first, ever, enabled, brought, already, able, years, world, upon, united, under, transportation, trans-atlantic, today, through, states, standard, specialization, skill, since, powerful, nation, middle, meant, markets, long, living, laying
