Francisco Franco Francisco Franco Francisco Franco was born on December 4, 1892, in El Ferrol, in Galica. He was the second child and his family mostly consisted of sailors. He went to Sagrado Corazon School when he was little and it seemed as though he didn’t have a happy childhood. He wanted to attend Naval School, but he could not because it was closed in 1898 due to financial problems. After he learned about this, Franco joined the Infantry Academy located in Toledo. He graduated form the academy when he was seventeen years old. He earned a lot of respect from other people when he attended the academy and in 1912 he volunteered for the active duty in colonial campaigns in Spanish Morocco. He became the youngest captain in the army in 1915. He joined the foreign legion in 1920 and he married Carmen Toto in 19123. He and Carmen had one daughter. When he was thirty years old, Alfonso XIII promoted him to lieutenant. This basically gave Franco control of the Foreign Legion. In 1926, Franco was promoted to Brigade General.
