Music Of The Holocaust Music of the Holocaust Throughout time, music has played a vital role in nearly every historical event. From Biblical Psalms, depicting the resurrection of Christ, to modern portrayals of September 11, music has long been a unique means of expression. It is not surprising that we can outline the Holocaust by analyzing the songs and folklore that surrounded the darkest years in human history. Music is said to have contributed to Hitler’s rise to power. German marches and anthems were heard frequently in conjunction with speeches. In addition, the roots of many Jewish folk songs can be traced back to concentration camps. Songs have also expressed accounts of life in the Ghettos. Even today, much music is written as an account of the past. This paper will discuss such musical accounts as we explore these aspects of the holocaust. Hitler’s Rise to Power On January 30, 1933, General Hindenburg reluctantly named Hitler Chancellor of Germany. At this point, Germany was on the verge of civil war, and the nation was facing severe economic hardships.
