Mao China The Mao Years In China, the years from 1949-1976 are known as the Mao years. There was growth and change taking place in China during this time. New policies were passes as well as new Mao government campaigns. Some policies were successful while others failed to properly achieve the desired affect. In 1949, the Peoples Republic was able to consolidate a strong framework that included both urban and rural areas. The first actions of the Peoples republic were very important because they needed to set grounds for further polices to be laid on. They were the “three anti” and the “five anti” campaigns. The three anti campaigns were against waste, corruption, and bureaucratism. The “five anti” campaigns were bribery, tax evasion, fraud, the stealing of state property, and theft of economic secretes. Many large companies had to pay large amounts of money to the government that they did not previously have to pay; these companies thus fell into governmental control.
