John Glenn John Glenn John Glenn was one of the first American astronauts, and the first American to orbit the Earth. John Glenn is a person that represented all of the characteristics that an American male would like to have. John Glenn always knew what to say and when to say it. Everyone that John Glenn approached or was approached by was treated with respect. Glenn worked hard and did everything that he could do to help the space program. I think that John Glenn was the glue that kept the team of astronauts together. I liked John Glenn because he was a true leader. Whenever there was a question that needed to be answered, Glenn said what Americans wanted to hear. He had a 50/50 proposition that said it was important to travel into space and since they had the talents to do it , they would. John Glenn was not a guy that liked to go out and party. Some of the other astronauts began to drink alcohol and chase women.
