Imperialism Imperialism, the practice by which powerful nations or peoples seek to extend and maintain control or influence over weaker nations or peoples. You could associate imperialism solely with the economic expansion of capitalist states or you could reserve it for European expansion. Rather than one state attempting to unify the world, we as states establish political control over territories in South and Southeast Asia and in the New World. We should have economic, political, and ideological motives for imperialism and each are very important. Economic explanations of imperialism are the most common. States are motivated to dominate others by the need to expand their economies. They need to strive for raw materials, additional sources of labor, and new outlets for surplus. We have a tendency to control the trade of our colonies, in order to monopolize the benefits of that imperialism, political, motives, states, need, nations, economic, control, world, trade, should, powerful, power, peoples, people, over, new, let, ideological, expansion, expand, best, believe, white, weaker, way, very, unify, underdevelopment, underdeveloped, through, territories, tendency, surplus, struggle, stronger
