The British in India
Robert Clive and Edmund Burke were speakers at the House of Commons. Each gave their thought and interpretation of the accounts and effects of the British in India. They also expressed their concerns on how the administration was handling themselves in India as well as the benefits of their presence.
Robert Clive who brought the British to victory in 1757 in India spoke to the House in 1772 was concerned with the young British men that traveled to India. He also shows concerns that the Indians where not presenting the British with presents while in their country. He addressed that since it were "customary of that country for an inferior never to come into the presence of a superior without a present" then why shouldn't the British be treated with the same customs for they are the ones who entered into their land when things were weak in there own country to come there aid after the decline in 1707, therefore the British were superior and the Indians were inferior.
Edmund Burke an English political philosopher subsequently also spoke to the House in 1783 his view slightly differed from Clive's. Burke felt that as a
