War Photographer Opened Windows
With the push of a button, and a click of a camera, photographer Robert Capa brought images to the world never seen by man before. One of the more famous war photographers, Capas photos showed us what our soldiers faced. When the German army occupied France, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg, Capa was there to capture it all. Over 6,500 ships, 12,000 in aircraft were supposed to take one million men and their supplies to England. To toy with the Germans, they even sent a fake first army, including dummy soldiers, tanks, and tent encampments. The night before D-Day, airborne divisions discovered Germans hidden batteries, obstacles, and mines along the French coast. When thousands of U.S. troops invaded, Germans, unexpected of our arrival, were caught off guard. Capa and the unit, to which he was assigned, were dropped off 100 miles from the beach. There he fought bullets above, below, dodged German obstacles, and dove for cover so that he could get two rolls of snapshots i!
n as well. He developed and sent the pictures to Life magazine, then rushed back to the war scene because after we finally got through the German line, the invasion of Europe had just begun.
