In the continent of Africa the disease has spread at a frighteningly rapid pace. Africa by far the hardest hit by the epidemic is under attack by the disease. According to 2000 estimates by UNAIDS, a group made up from the World Bank, and World Health Organization, 37 million people in the world have Aids, 28.5 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Nearly 19 Million Africans have died from complications of the Aids Virus. There were 6.4 million new Aids infections in 1999, 4 million of them in Africa, 2.8 million dead of Aids in 1999, 85 percent of them African’s, 13.2 Million children orphaned by Aids, 12.1 million of them Africans. It seems that disease is spreading uncontrollably through Africa due to a lack of education, and a strong distrust for the western world.
