Anorexia

Anorexia Anorexia nervosa is a psychophysiological disorder usually occurring in young women. It is characterized by an abnormal feat of becoming obese, a distorted self-image, a persistent unwillingness to eat, and severe weight loss. It is often accompanied by self-induced vomiting, excessive exercise, malnutrition, amenorrhea, and other physiological changes. Anorexia nervosa affects the individuals and the society they live in by making the affected person believe they are not thin, changing the way a person’s body functions, and causing more risks to the community due to peer/societal pressure. For an individual to be diagnosed with anorexia nervosa they must have most of the symptoms. Usually a person with anorexia nervosa weighs fifteen percent less than normal body weight for their height. Also, if they have amenorrhea they could possibly be suffering from anorexia. Anorexia nervosa also affects the brain and the individual may suffer from depression. Nails and hair become brittle and skin may be dry and yellow. Anorexics may suffer from hypothermia and lanugo. Also, pulse rate and blood pressure drop, irregular heart rhythms may occur and heart failure is possible.
