Introduction
Crystal Methamphetamine is one of the fastest growing drugs being used throughout the United States. Through the extensive research that was conducted for this paper it is apparent of the effects meth can have on a person and their family. Although Meth is not the only drug out there being consumed by people, it has the upper hand in the damage it causes to addicts and their families.
Why is Crystal Meth so Addictive and What Damage does it Cause'
All addictive drugs have two things in common. They produce an initial pleasurable effect, followed by a rebound unpleasant effect. An amphetamine, through its stimulant effects, produces positive feeling, but when it wears off it leaves a person with the opposite feelings. When this occurs a chemical imbalance is created and the result is irritability that physically demands more of the drug to normal and feel good again. Amphetamines produce an artificial feeling of pleasure. Most addictive drugs are able to produce pleasurable effects by chemically mimicking certain normal brain messenger chemicals which produce positive feelings in response to signals from the brain. When the amphetamine molecule comes in through the blood system, it bypasses the natural nerve cells and causes the
