Lsd Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, or L.S.D. is a hallucinogenic drug that was discovered in 1938. It was first introduced to the world by a pair of Swiss chemists, Albert Hoffman and W. A. Stoll. They were performing experiments on parasitic fungus on rye, when a new chemical was produced. This new chemical was later believed to help patients with mental disorders. It alters people’s perception of reality, so doctors tried to see if it could solve the problems inside chemically imbalanced brains. In the 1950’s it was praised as a miracle drug, it was very close to becoming an actual medication. Many new ailments were thought to be treatable by this new wonder drug. Doctors and Psychologists believe that L.S.D. could also be used to treat alcoholism, autism, paranoia, schizophrenia, and various other disorders. A Harvard professor named Timothy Leary was a researcher on the new drug during the early 1960’s. He started to treat inmates at Massachusetts Correctional Institute.
