Leukemia Leukemia is an often deadly form of cancer that deteriorates bone-marrow, the Lymphatic System or other tissues involved in the producing of blood cells. Leukemia affects only ten in one-hundred thousand people. As Leukemia develops, it produces abnormal white blood cells. The abnormal cells interfere with the production of blood components. Leukemia cuts down on red blood cell and platelet production, which in turn cuts off an oxygen supply to many organs in the body. The body now has trouble fighting off infections because there are fewer normal white blood cells to combat those infections. Leukemia is a general term because there is more than one known type of Leukemia, there are four known types of Leukemia, they are: *Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia or ALL is often called Childhood Leukemia and usually strikes children. This type of Leukemia often appears very suddenly. About eighty-five percent of children with Leukemia have this kind of Leukemia. * Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia or CLL which most often affects people over the age of forty.
