A Weighty Issue A Weighty Issue In the state of Massachusetts, there is a law that makes it illegal for anyone to consume more than three sandwiches at a wake. Who knows for sure why this law is in effect, but one theory is this, when people are depressed they tend to eat more, thus consuming more calories, which in turn, will eventually lead to an increase in weight. While some feel that this particular law is somewhat absurd, many people believe that there should be laws passed to aid the population in taking strides towards a healthier existence. In today’s society, far too many people are overweight or obese . In short, America as a whole is fat. Not only is being obese or overweight considered to be aesthetically unpleasing, it poses many grim and perhaps life threatening complications, with death obviously topping the list as most severe. Sad yet true, obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States. While many of these complications can ultimately result in death, it is possible for one to live with them, albeit extremely difficult.
