The Modern Presidency
The Founding Fathers of our country wrote Article II of the Constitution to provide for a Presidency, or executive branch, of the United States. They included in this Article the methods of election, certain qualifications for the Presidency, his powers and duties, and, if need be, impeachment. Although the Presidency has taken many different roles in the two centuries since the enactment of the Constitution, the actions surrounding the Presidency must always fall within the boundaries of the Constitution. The Presidency today is not however, what the Framers had envisioned, the President of the United States now serves a variety of functions that have evolved into the role of the President.
The President of the United States serves a variety of roles on a daily basis, ranging from Commander in chief to "explainer in chief." An example of the various roles of the Presidency can be seen in his press releases like, "The Fact sheet on Working on Behalf of African Americans" where President Clinton can be referred to as an explainer in chief, stating the benefits of his different policies throughout his eight year term and also can be referred to as a politician,
