Social Security Programs Economists insist that the social security program will be tapped later this year to pay the government’s bills despite Bush and Daschle’s promises. After a meeting with President George Bush, democratic leader Tom Daschle was pleased with Bush’s pledges of not touching the social security surplus. Although aware of these pledges, the nations prominent economists are certain it will be exploited because of Bush’s recent 1.3 trillion-dollar tax cut. The social security surplus is projected to be about 157 billion dollars but with the sinking economy and the tax cut, the government will have to divert the funds to cover odds and ends by the end of the year. This is a problem that effects everyone. In years to come it seems as though social security will be abolished. These high paid politicians have no concern for how the working man will live after retirement because they don't have to worry about getting social security because of their government pensions. With the way the retirement age keeps rising, in 20 years or so there will be no retirement because there will be no social security.
