Gerrymandering How does gerrymandering impact the Constitution as designed by James Madison. Gerrymandering is similar to what James Madison ideas were back in his own time that he was fighting for. He was often overlooked and not listened to. Once he teamed up with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, everyone started to listen to him. Eventually he became president after Thomas Jefferson and was later named the “Father of the Constitution.” Madison was the youngest delegate at the age of 29. Although his many rejections he received for his ideas, he never gave up for his views. He was not a strong speaker, but he always fought for a strong government. Madison had three ideas to prevent giving to much power to anybody. They were limiting majority control, separating powers and creating checks and balances. Madison knew that a minority was relatively easy to control, but on the other hand a majority was hard the control. So Madison wanted to break up the power of the majority so they would not control everything. He believed that government officials should be elected by a minority, thus easier to control the outcome.
