Watergate USA Today The Watergate Hotel: A Political Crisis It all started at the Watergate hotel in Washington D.C. A five star hotel, usually sent out to huge politicians was the center of controversy for more than five years. One of the biggest political crisis took place in a hotel room prior to 1972. Apparently the administration of President Richard Nixon was caught recording conversations and stealing political documents from a democratic senator’s hotel room. The break-in was well panned. Though it was not carried out with sheer protection. Security guards discovered certain entrances to the hotel doors taped, now they would stay open when shut, and not locked. AS soon as the security guards discovered that they then searched the hotel for intruders and found five men well dressed, not under to much disguise. These men were captured and charged. Their names were: James McCors, Bernard Barker, Virgilo Goneglez, Evgenio Martinez, and Frank Sturgis.
