Population Control Of The North American White Tailed Deer After reviewing all of my research, I have come to the conclusion that when regarding the issue of population control of the North American White tailed deer, only two sides with two main arguments come to mind, hunting and killing the deer by use of firearm vs. birth control via injections by darts. But the heart of the controversy for the opposing sides is which method of population control would do the least damage to the environment. The white tailed dear is an indigenous mammal of North America that reproduces on the average of two offspring a year. They occupy our national and state forests, lakes, rivers, swamps, and wetlands. Population control of the species is an ongoing issue for sportspersons, conservationists and animal activists. Whatever side you take, the common thread that binds all of these people together is to preserve this species; some sort of population control must be initiated and utilized. The national Park Service viewed the environmental impact of the deer population based on the high percentage of deer that was destroying field crops. And what was the best means of control for the problem with no adverse effects on the environment.
