Tupelo

Tupelo Tupelo, Mississippi I chose the city of Tupelo, Mississippi for my project. I chose this city for its great historical content. Not only was Elvis Presley born there, but other major events also happened there such as the Tupelo engagement, a Civil War battle. Tupelo has about 30,000 people and is located at the intersections of US 45 and US 78, and the Natchez Trace Parkway (Natchez Trace National Park). It is about 90 minutes east of Memphis, Tennessee. Greyhound Bus Lines and Northwest AirLines serve Tupelo. Tupelo’s most important landmark in modern history is the two-room house where the Rock and Roll legend Elvis Presley was born. The Elvis Presley Birthplace is part of a whole Elvis Presley Center. This center includes the Elvis Presley Museum, Elvis Presley Park, and the Elvis Memorial Chapel. Elvis’ father, Vernon Presley, built the house Elvis was born in for only $180. The Elvis Museum has a big collection of items from Elvis's early life and also his career. The theme of the museum is "Times and Things Remembered."
