Argentina Argentina covers about 1.07 million square miles (2.7 million square kilometers), about one-third of the area of the United States. It is second in size in Latin America, following Brazil. Other major cities are Cordoba, Rosario, and La Plata. It is fourth in population in Latin America, following Brazil, Mexico, and Columbia. Chile borders Argentina to the west, Bolivia and Paraguay to the north, and Brazil and Uruguay to the east. Argentina is divided into 22 provinces. It has a high literacy rate of 95 percent. Argentina comes from a Latin word meaning, “silver.” Argentina’s form of government is very similar to the United States form government.
