Casablanaca As an American in the 1940's "Casablanca" would have provided me with reassurance. At the end of the movie Rick kills the Nazi policeman, which allows the woman and her husband to take off for America. It showed that the ally forces would overpower the Nazis. It instilled confidence into the American public, as well as our allies. The movie also showed that Rick, an American, made a good life for himself and he was well respected by certain police, people of Casablanca and the people at his cantina. This shows that Rick as an American in another country was respected, honest, and a genuinely good person, who is portrayed to the people that he interacts with in other countries. It also portrays to viewers that Americans were respectable and good. At the end of Casablanca, the production code was broken when Rick shoots the policeman. In the famous closing scene the policeman is shown being hit by the bullet, which violated the rules of the production code. The production code stated that the action of shooting someone could not be shown on screen. The movie could show the gun being held and a person falling after being shot.
