Book Movie Comparison: Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been'“ T.V. Takes a Back Seat “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been'” by Joyce Carol Oates takes place in 1966. The story evolves around a teenage girl named Connie. Connie is at the point in her life where she is drifting away from her parents and getting more involved with young men. Connie it pretty and outgoing, which leads her into meeting some nice guys. This is fine until she attracts a really bad man named Arnold Friend, who has some horrible intentions in mind. This story was latter adapted into a movie. The movie maintains the overall plot, but also changes a few things. In comparison the book is much more believable and thrilling than the unrealistic and boring movie. The book portrays Connie as a much more believable character. Connie is about as rebellious as a teenager comes. She never listens to her parents and is in need of constant attention from boys. Usually girls like this suffer from not having a strong support group at home. This stands true in the book, but not the movie. In the movie, both of Connie’s parents are very loving and caring towards there daughter.
