The Indians were the original inhabitants of the land, it was the Europeans that conquered the land, and claimed it for their own. There was an incident in the movie that is very similar in today’s society. A lady in the movie wanted an older grandmother to stay behind, she constantly criticized the elders. That incident is similar to today’s society because many young people have no respect for their elders. Another incident in this movie that is similar to today’s society is the mentality of the people. Many in that slavery society denounced and refused to acknowledge their African heritage; this is a big problem in today’s society as well.
