Citizen Kane Film title: Citizen Kane Essential Vision: The film deals with the life of a character, Charles Foster Kane, a millionaire that owns a newspaper and dies. The base of the film is that this character, Charles Kane, dies and reporters are trying to discover what was meant by his last words, “rosebud.” They go through interview after interview of old friends of Mr. Kane, they in turn reflect and flash back to events that dealt with Mr. Kane. Two to Three Supporting Film References: 1.) The opening scene is perhaps one of the most haunting and essential parts of this film. It opens with a collection of moments in Charles Foster Kane’s life and then shows the death him. It pictures Charles falling to the ground and a snow globe rolling along a floor and the words “rosebud.” Viewers are awestruck and have no idea what is to be expected out of this film. Throughout the film I found myself thinking about what in the world “rosebud” could mean. This opening scene was also very unconventional for the time; Orson Welles took a backward route into filming. This backwards route keeps his viewers attention and keeps them pondering about the word. 2.)
